Ten Changes To Make For A Healthier Smile

We all should have more reasons to smile and this year, you should make it all about smiling more! However, some can often have a hard time with their smile, perhaps fearful because something doesn’t look right or they’re conscious of their teeth, lips or even their breath. A good oral care routine is going to make a huge difference to how you feel on the inside and out. So with that being said, here are ten changes to make for a healthier smile.

Brush Two To Three Times A Day

Even though it’s difficult to do so three times a day, brushing your teeth this many times throughout the day can be really helpful. When you have a meal, the food and drinks you’ve eaten will likely sit on top of your teeth and around your gums for hours on end. That’s why brushing is important because it helps remove all that buildup of food and liquid. If it’s left on there, then the enamel and protection of your teeth may become damaged over time.

Not everyone has the time to do a lunchtime brush but there are plenty of mini versions of a toothbrush and toothpaste that you can fit into your handbag. If three isn’t possible then at the very least you should be doing two. With two times a day, you’re combating morning breath and brushing before bed.

If you don’t brush often, then you’ll certainly see a big difference to the health of your teeth and gums in just a short space of time.

Floss In Between Your Teeth Daily

Floss is seen as an add-on to brushing your teeth but it should be something that’s part and parcel of your routine when cleaning your mouth. The problem with toothbrushes is that regardless of whether they’re manual or electronic, they can’t reach all areas of your mouth, particularly in between teeth if there are now easy gaps to get through.

So flossing has become a very popular thing to do, especially when it comes to a water flosser. There are methods to flossing that are worth exploring before you go using it. There’s right ways of using it and then ways that might cause you pain if done incorrectly.

Use Mouthwash To Disinfect

Mouthwash, again like floss, is another important element to keeping your teeth and mouth clean. Mouthwash acts as a disinfectant so although promoting a fresh breath, it’s aim is to remove all the nasty bacteria from your mouth in general. It can be good to use as liquid to swirl around your mouth after brushing and flossing. It’s likely the final step when it comes to cleaning your teeth and gums.

There are lots of different mouthwashes out there to choose from but many might have a preference as to which they prefer. For example, you have Listerine, which is a very powerful one and often is quite uncomfortable to swish around in your mouth for too long. However, it doesn the job well! There will also be mouthwashes that are milder yet still effective. With that being said, it’s worth doing some research to find out which ones you like the best.

Don’t Forget Your Tongue

The tongue is the part of the mouth that surprisingly (or maybe unsurprisingly to some) is the part where it has the most bacteria living on it. You could make every effort to clean your teeth and floss but the bacteria from your tongue is likely to do some damage in the long-run. So with that being said, it’s worth finding  toothbrushes with the addition of a scrub to scrub away the bacterias on your tongue. There are also separate tools that you may want to use.

Regardless of what you use, brushing and removing the bacteria from your tongue is important and it does make a big difference to the health of your mouth.

It’s worth regularly checking your tongue too in order to see if it’s looking healthy or not.
