Self-Care: It’s Not A Joke!

It doesn’t matter whether you are a Mom at home who needs some stress relief, or a high-flying city gal with the world at her feet: self-care is not something to forget about doing. Self-indulgence doesn’t come in a better package then when you spend five minutes thinking about what you would like to do for yourself. On top of this, if you want your mental and physical health to remain balanced and intact, you need to consider yourself occasionally.

Self-care isn’t something that you do as part of your daily routine. What I mean is, if anyone tells you that the ten minute shower you took this morning before work is self-care, poke them in the eye. Basic hygiene is not self-care; it’s the basics you need to get you from day to day. Think about those long, hot bubble baths that are drawn purely to languish with a good book and a bath bomb: now THAT is self-care.

If you want to truly indulge yourself, you have to let go emotionally of any guilt that surrounds taking some time out for yourself. We all feel it from time to time, though we shouldn’t. Sometimes, self-care is booking a rejuvenating medical aesthetic service so that your skin can feel invigorated once more. Sometimes, it’s simply sitting in a coffee shop with your favorite beverage and watching the world go by. It’s not something you should be skipping out on, and it’s going to benefit you spiritually in the long run. On each payday, book something that is just for you. So, you may want to get highlights in your hair one month, and the next spend the same amount of cash at the store to get some new books.

Self-care can be anything you deem going above and beyond for yourself. No matter what, CHOOSE SOMETHING that makes you happy. When you look after your hair, your nails, your skin, you feel better inside. It’s like you can’t not smile; the world feels good because you feel good. It has an impact on the others in your life, too. The happier and more content you are on the inside, the more others will sit up and take notice of your new attitude.

Self-care is not a reward. It’s the way you can maintain and boost your mental, emotional and physical health. The treats you give your skin and hair will keep your body looking healthy and alive, not dull and pale. The way it makes you feel soothes your soul, making you feel confident and bold – in the best possible way. Neglecting yourself because of a lack of time is no longer an excuse. You make the time in your life for what is most important, and self-care is one of those things that needs to be on the priority list. You have so many exciting choices to do something good for yourself, so pick the self-care practice that makes you feel the best you can possibly be.
