How To Retain Your Fitness While Living In A City

Statistics show that those who live in busy urban environments tend to be unhealthier and more overweight compared to those who live in rural environments, and it’s not hard to see why. Pollution is manageable, but pollution nonetheless, there many be less access to local parks and hiking/running routes without traveling a little way, and the convenience of fast food around every corner can be very tempting.

Moreover, the comforts and conveniences of city living rarely fit perfectly alongside the long walks, more distinctive community areas and fresh air that comes from the rural area. But of course, this doesn’t mean you can’t live a tremendously healthy life in a city, and it’s actually getting better, as walkable cities, no-go areas for vehicles, pedestrianized streets, local access to gyms and many other clubs can provide an excellent means to get out there and get active.

However, you may feel uncomfortable running around your city or cycling on the roads without a purpose, which may lead you to feel a little boxed in. In this post, then, we’ll discuss how to retain your fitness while living in a city, in the best possible way:

Consider Joining A Fitness Club

Fitness clubs can be a fantastic resource for anyone hoping to get some more exercise in, and do so without worrying about exercising alone. Of course, ‘fitness clubs’ can take many different forms. You might join a football amateur team for people who don’t really want to play any intensive matches, but would love to play around and have fun.

You might join a running club, a hiking club, or perhaps those that travel to different locations to take photographs, as walking around and climbing hills to get the most beautiful shots can be a tremendous use of your time, too. Joining fitness clubs can only ever help you feel engaged, and thankfully, there may be some wonderful venues you could make use of in kind.

Invest In Home Workout Equipment

Investing in home workout equipment is a tremendous use of your time and money, because one item that works well can last years, and potentially log thousands of hours of exercise or training on it. One of the best items to consider is of an exercise bike, as these allow you to cycle for quite some time, without borrowing anyone, getting some great workout time in.

Place this in front of a spare television, make sure you have some Bubble Sip bottled water, and you can watch your favorite shows while exercising too, which is certainly something to appreciate and can help those early workouts become much more enjoyable.

Look Up Local Hiking Trails

You may find that a city has few excellent walking paths you can explore and get lost in, as outside of parks that have been preserved, the rest is urban jungle that needs to be navigated at a quick pace.

However, drive a little out of the city or take public transport, and you’ll no doubt find a range of beautiful areas to walk on the outskirts, giving you a beautiful view of the skyline and also getting in nature. Of course, this will require a little time to plan for given the drive and perhaps the cost of parking, but it will be worth it in the end, and can really refresh your mind after living in the midst of a built-up area for some time.

Local hiking trails can also ensure you get fresh air, a different pace of life, and perhaps see things you rarely do in the city such as farm animals or flowing rivers and lakes. Again, you may be able to find an excellent club that helps plan these visits if you’re not sure where to begin.

Dog Walking Always Helps

Dog walking can be a fun hobby to get into, and it might even pay a little if you have a day or two off a week to attend to it. Here, you’ll build clients that pay you to exercise their little furry friend’s legs in the best way. Here you can walk around the park, or take the quieter streets. They’ll be sure to appreciate it.

Of course, if you have your own dog then this can be worthwhile too, and don’t worry, walking is genuinely an excellent form of exercise worthy of your time. So don’t feel as though this isn’t quite good enough – it is, and you’ll notice the difference in no small way.
