Gas vs Wood vs Electric – Which Fireplace Option is the Best?

If this is your first time searching for a fireplace, you might be intimidated by the number of options. The top three are gas, wood, and electric fireplaces. They all have their differences and might be better suited depending on what you are looking for. In some cases, you might not be able to install certain types in your home or the room for which it was destined. This is why you need to understand the pros and drawbacks of each option before you make your choice. So, which one is the best?

Gas Fireplaces

One of the major benefits of gas fireplaces and stoves is that they don’t cost much to run when compared with something like an electric fireplace. They don’t quite replicate the same experience as a wood fireplace, but it will be close enough for some people. They are also very efficient at producing heat.

Another good thing about these is how convenient they are. You don’t have to worry about buying or storing logs. You don’t even need to have a chimney. Some are vented through an exterior wall and you have flueless options that don’t need to be vented at all.

If you happen to live in London and are thinking of a gas fireplace, you must pick a fireplace supplier in London that has a wide selection so you can find the best for your needs and house configuration. They’ll also be able to guide you towards better options whether you want something purely decorative or something to supplement your heating system.

Wood Fireplaces

If you want to create the traditional look and feel of a rustic fireplace, then wood is the only way to go. Nothing can replicate the scent and sound of crackling wood. The only issue with those, however, is that they can be difficult to impossible to install.

Not only do you need a chimney, but you’ll have to constantly clean both the fireplace and the chimney. If you neglect this, you run the very real risk of causing a chimney fire. So, unless you are ready for the constant cleaning and maintenance, we suggest you look for another option. If you have an antique home, however, and have all the fixtures needed, this is the best choice if you want to get an authentic-looking fireplace.

Electric Fireplaces

Electric fireplaces are the newest of the three, and they do have a few things going for them. For one, they’re by far the cheapest option. They’re very easy to install, and you can put them up in virtually any room. Some of them don’t even require professional installation; you can simply plug them into a wall and call it a day.

The problem with these, however, is that they’re not realistic. They’re also very expensive to run and don’t provide much heat considering that most are capped at 2kW or less.
