4 Reasons You Should Focus More On Bad Posture

Your mom was right the whole time when she told you not to slouch. You should have listened to her. Numerous scientific studies show that bad posture, such as slouching or letting your shoulders hang down, is bad for your health and makes you look bad.

A study by the American Chiropractic Association found that 31 million Americans don’t stand up straight. Everyone has bad posture once in a while, but when it becomes a habit, it does long-term damage. Here are some of the bad things that can happen to your health if you don’t sit or stand up straight all the time, and will hopefully encourage you to get the chiropractic care you need:

Increase In Depression And Stress

Several studies have found a clear link between how you stand and how you feel. People who walk with a slump have a lower opinion of themselves and feel more down. When you slouch, blood flow in your body slows down, making it harder for your cells to get the oxygen they need. Your organs are crowded and can’t work as well as they should. Also, if you have bad posture or scoliosis, your body or spine may not be in the right place. This can slow down the neural processes that keep your body working right. All of these things will affect your mood, especially if you don’t work out as much as you should.

Problems With Sexual Health

You might be surprised to learn that sitting with bad posture can hurt your sexual health and the way your bladder works. When it comes to men and women’s sexual functions, sacral or slumped sitting is worse than other positions. This is because sacral sitting shortens and tightens the pelvic floor muscles, which are the main sexual muscles in the body and are in charge of strength, sensation, and arousal. When their pelvic floor muscles are weak, men and women both have problems with their sexual function. For example, bad posture can cause pelvic floors to be short and tight, which can make problems during sex last longer and make ejaculations weaker. When a woman’s pelvic floor muscles are tight, her orgasms are also weak. Lastly, bad sitting posture can put too much pressure on your bladder, which can make you go to the bathroom more often or, in the worst cases, cause you to leak urine.

Fatigue

Comfort and the best way for your body to work depend on having good posture. When your body is stable, well-supported, and aligned, its parts work well together and your energy levels are well-controlled. But when you have bad posture, your body fights against the way your spine naturally moves and aligns. When you don’t use your body’s structure well, it has to work harder to keep up. This makes your muscles tired. When you have bad posture, your joints and ligaments are also put under more stress, which can lead to muscle strain and joint pain.

Bad Lung Function

If you have bad posture, it can affect how much air you take in when you breathe. When you always breathe from your chest and have bad posture, your lungs never fill up enough to give your body all the oxygen it needs to work right. Also, leaning forward all the time can hurt the way your lungs work and how much air you can take in. If your lungs don’t work well, you might have trouble breathing, thinking less clearly, or even get heart disease.

As you can see there are numerous reasons why you should take care of your posture and make sure you are sitting and standing correctly.
